I had a network set up, but then my family moved, and we rewired everything. Then 4 of the computers had their hard-drives wiped and we bought another. I have 6 in total. How do I put them all on the network again? Should I delete whatever broken connections I have between the computers? (Some of the computers can acess one or two other machines, but the computers don't "recognize" eachother. I made a floppy disk in the setup wizard but the newer computers don't have a floppy drive. I used my Windows XP CD to try and link the machines but I'm not really sure what I'm doing. Also, can I connect 5 PCs with XP to the network and add a 6th that has Vista?
Other info: We share an internet connection through a cable modem, and the internet is working on all 6, but not the file and printer sharing (I can't send a file from one computer to another without a CD, email, or a flashdrive)

Thanks in advance!

Hi Guys,

My son has a new laptop with Windows Vista Home. While he is installing all programs to D:\, C:\ is almost used up. We have tried the Manage properties to increase this drive (after shrinking D drive), but this option is greyed out.

We have also tried using Diskpart.exe but this keeps coming up with the message that there is no more space available on this disk.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Hi,
I have windows vista and I extended the space on my C: drive after deleting the "D:". I then created a new "D:" drive with the remaining free space.
The "D:" drive appears in the start-my computer windows. Nevertheless, I cannot send any file to the "d:" drive because it does not show up in the "Sent to" menu.
Any idea?

Hello all, I'm Ricardo. I recently bought a toshiba satellite with windows vista and would like to shrink the first (and for now only) partition from 230gb to about 60gb so I can make two other partitions, one for mass file storage and another for ubuntu linux OS. When I try to shrink the partition with Disk Management or diskpart, it won't let me shrink any less than about 150gb (it just occured to me, is it possible to shrink the volume with diskpart down to 60gb and reinstall vista on it?).
Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, does anybody know why vista takes so much disk space? On my old toshiba laptop with XP and 30gb disk, I never used more than about 60% of it with programs like Solidworks, videolan, autocad, etc...

Thanks again

Using Vista Home Premium with an X-Fi Fatal1ty soundcard (though this problem also occurred with the onboard Realtek sound).

I have a driving sim (Rally Trophy) which ran fine in W95 and XP. Installed it on my Vista system last year and the sound is atrocious. As the throttle is revved it sounds like someone playing scales on a flute superimposed, at the same volume, over the engine sound.

I had the same problem, with a different sim, years ago in XP and the solution was to lower the sound acceleration. Since Vista has no acceleration, that isn't an option.

(FWIW, the developers apparently haven't monitored their forums in a couple of years; messages posted at a couple of race sim forums have elicited no response.)

I all,
I have a problem on my Windows Vista that began afetr the purchase of an external Hard Disk Freecom.
A few days afetr the purchase I disconnected it while it was writing and, since that moment, every time I connect and disconnect it, the PC go to freeze mode for 5 minutes.
The same thing happen even if the hard disk is disconnected: every time I start windows it go to freeze a little after the password, and every time I connect and disconnect a usb device.
I have looked for the solution everywhere, updated windows, unistalled and installed the hard disk from the device manager but I solved the problem only when I restored a recent backup.
Yesterday the Hard disk was writing a backup while Vista was installing the updates; at the end of the proceure windows restarted automatically and the problem began again!!!
The Pc go to freeze when it starts, every time I connect or disconnect the hard disk, an usb earphone that has always worked switch on but there is no audio and I don't know how many others usb devices will have problems.
Has anyone an idea to solve this problem before I throw out of the window Vista or the the hard disk?
Thank you

Hi Forum!

I have managed to download and install BBPress and WordPress and I got them to sync up with the plugins from WordPress that make that happen. Now I just need to tweek it just right so it will behave and look like I want it too.

It would be nice to find someone who has been through these steps. I could use some pointers.

When I try to extract the folder a window pops up saying-
"Cannot complete the compressed (zipped) folders extraction wizard"

"Before you can extract files, you must change the permissions for this compressed (zipped) folder."

I have no idea how to do this.

Thank you very much!
