I accidently damaged the Boot sector of a Vista partion on my harddrive by using PM. Now I can no longer boot to this partition!

I was able to install XP on another partition on this harddrive and access some of my files. I can NOT access my Email files (which I need). I was bad and have done a backup for a few weeks. Lesson learned!

Is there a way to make my Vista partition bootable again so I can access my Email files ???

TIA!

You want to get rid of an old partition and return the disk space to the C drive?

Use diskpart.exe to select the disk. Select the volume you want to delete and enter delete in the diskpart.exe command line. Now select the volume you wish to extend and type extend into the command line. This time when you list volume you should find the extra disk space has been allocated for you. Hope this helps.

I have 3 partitions and deleted the 3rd one so that i could extend my local disk, but then the extend volume option is unavailable(using disk management). Then i tried using the command prompt, still i cant extend it and i always get the message "There is not enough usable free space on specified disk to extend the volume". I have a very low available space for my local disk. Is that a problem? please help..thank in advance...Ü

I had the same problem. I wanted 3 partitions of specific sizes but couldn't 'use up' the free / unallocated space due to it not being located 'next to' the new partition.

The answer is simple.

DELETE all partitions that arent the OS partition and then create a new one using all of the free space. This gives you the maximum size for the new partition.

Then you simply shrink that down by the size you want your third partition to be and everything should work out just fine.

Diskpart.exe did nothing extra for me except for rendering the mouse useless while I typed in code...

Thanks for the guide anyway.
