Have you considered trying an older version of reader? http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=acrobat allows you to download older versions of Adobe Reader. I guess this would go under the alternative heading since these older versions do not have all the features of current Reader versions.

Sorry, but Foxit reader is not the solution. It is something of an alternative, but Adobe Reader does things that Foxit can’t.
