I tried this registry change and it works *extremely* well.

I have an 8 year old HP x2000 Workstation, which was the ultimate top of the line industrial workstation in its day. I've kept the system fairly updated over the years and I use this workstation to run Vista Ultimate. Vista ran very well until TrendMicro released its new 2008 antivirus software. The old Pentium 4 and bus just couldn't handle the overhead from the enhanced security.

Although the USB key is new and I upgraded the system with a USB 2.0 card a long time ago, the motherboard bus was too slow for the Vista test. Once I applied the registry hack and started ReadyBoost, it's acting like a new workstation. Thanks to this hack, I should be able to squeeze another year out of it before I can finally put it out to pasture. The workstation has run continuously for 8 years with its only failure being a blown power supply, and that happened during a very severe thunderstorm.

You might have to let the cache run for awhile before you start to notice a real performance improvement, especially if you're using an older system.

I need a new workstation, but I'm not going to shell out $4K on another Workstation class one until the economy improves and I certainly don't want to buy a Pavilion class system. Once you've had a Mercedes, you don't want to buy a Chevy, even if it is new and performs better with the new technology. At any rate, I generally trash Pavilion or business desktop class systems in a year with the work I do. I always end up using this old x2000 the most.

Thank you, very much, for figuring out how to bypass this Vista "idiot light". I wish Microsoft hadn't put so many of them in Vista.

Ah hah!

It did work.

Nota Bene, Delete all the other entries to make your life easier, then start from step one of this page.

Good job to who ever wrote this page, I have been wondering about why readyboost didn't work with anything I have plugged in. [including 80GB discs]!!!

Thank you.

Make the Registry Changes to the one you will use to connect your USB device.

If you'r not sure what port it is, find one that has "USB2.0&Prod_Flash_Disk" in the name and make the changes to that one, than you just try eatch USB slot until you hit the right one.

That should do the trick.

Under that registry key, there are 3 or 4 different keys to click on. They all have that information that u provided, but with different numbers. Which one should I change or should I change all 4 of them the numbers u provided. Thanks
