I have the opposite problem.I have Vista and I don't want the Documents,Pictures or Music icons on my desktop. But Vista insists on returning the actual folders to the desktop (they are not shortcuts). If I delete the desktop icon I lose the folder and its contents. Because of this I don't even use these folders and have created other folders for those purposes.Yet I have to contend with the folders returning. Some files automatically locate to the Desktop versions and I have to check them for content before I remove them each day.

(1) I have tried Personalize/Change Desctop Icons and

(2) Desktop Properties/Location -/C:\Users\my name\Desktop - when I change the address to my folder I am told that I can't relocate to a parent folder.

None of these have worked. I am the administrator and indeed the only person that uses the computer.

Oh how I yearn for my old XP
